In our recently posted Pitt preview we pointed out that former Duke assistant Jeff Capel has a solid, young athletic core of midsized players to build around but that he still needs big men and help inside.
Well he’s got two candidates now and possibly one more on the way.
Forward Noah Collier (6-7) had already committed and now Capel has a center on board.
Max Amadasun visited Pitt and quickly committed, telling Capel he’s all in on Monday.
Add those guys to what Pitt has already and you can see they’re going to be a challenge very soon. And it won’t the stodgy, rock-em-sock-em challenge that Jamie Dixon had (nor do we expect Capel to schedule in the cowardly, calculating fashion that Dixon did).
And it may get better as another big man will announce this week: 6-8 power forward John Hugley is set to reveal his choice and Pitt is in the running there too.
By next year, Capel’s program is going to start knocking off ranked opponents and will be a tournament-quality group. Doesn’t mean they’ll make it but that’s light years ahead of what he inherited.
