Coming out of high school, before his knee injury, Harry Giles was seen as a monster talent and a can’t-miss prospect.
Two more surgeries slowed him down but he is in the NBA now and he’s beginning to emerge as a significant force for the Sacramento Kings and he’s doing it primarily as a defender and rebounder.
This reminds us of advice Coach K gave on the radio to a young caller years back.
The kid wanted to know how to establish himself on a team and Coach K advised him to find a niche, own it, then build his game out from there and that’s pretty much what Giles is doing.
The Kings really need help on defense and Giles is providing it. He’s moved up the rotation and is becoming a valued teammate and is beginning to show more flashes of just what he has to offer.
As the season goes on and as he grows more confident and assertive, we’ll start to see more of his considerable skills.
That’s all great but we’re a little sad we didn't get to see more of it while he was at Duke.
