Over at CBSSports.com, Matt Norlander has an interesting bit up on the connection between Murray State’s Ja Morant and Duke’s Zion Williamson.
Morant has exploded into public awareness as a sophomore but as it turns out, he didn't exactly come out of nowhere.
He was definitely under the radar coming out of high school but he did get offers - Clemson wanted to but didn’t have a slot - and former Murray State assistant James Kane took one look at him, called his boss and said this is a future pro.
Both Morant and Williamson are from South Carolina, both were tutored by their basketball playing fathers (in Williamson’s case his stepfather) and they played briefly on the same AAU team.
Norlander goes on to talk about Duke’s weaknesses - three point shooting and free throws.
You can probably overcome three point shooting easier than free throws, particularly in March when every point counts. Duke wouldn’t be the first highly rated team to be in a tight game and to lose it at the line.
