Duke Drops To #2 In AP Poll

Not that it matters very much. The main poll is in March and only one team will be first in that one.

NCAA Basketball: Virginia at Duke

The new AP poll is out and Duke is #2 while Virginia comes in at #3. Tennessee is #1 after both Duke and Virginia lost last week as did previously undefeated Michigan.

Virginia Tech fell one spot to #10 after getting hammered by Virginia last week. UNC is #11 and NC State fell to #21. Louisville made it for the first time this season, showing up at #23 while Florida State has fallen out of the Top 25 after three straight conference losses although they would be #26 by votes. Syracuse was the only other ACC team to receive votes.

Also, Steve Wojciechowski has Marquette up to #12.

We usually link to ESPN and, as usually noted, prefer the coaches poll to AP. Neither was updated the last time we looked but should be shortly.

Edited to add: Coaches and AP agree to 4 places, to 7 if you flip Michigan and Michigan State, and to 10 if you shuffle UK, KU, and VaTech. Reasonably close alignment!

Congratulations to Tennessee fans for the #1 spot. It hasn’t happened too often there obviously so it’s a big deal. We have to wonder what folks at Texas think since they more or less pushed him out and he’s just been sensational in Knoxville.
