Only one game on tap Monday, other than Duke-Syracuse, which we obviously cover separately.
Both teams from Saturday’s thriller are back in action Monday with Duke hosting Syracuse and Florida State heading up to Pitt.
While we’d love to see Jeff Capel’s team pull off the upset, it’s hard to see it happening, primarily because while Pitt has a nifty backcourt, it’s very young, and the front court is just not ACC-level at this point.
Remember FSU’s parade of dunks against Duke? How could Pitt stop that? Don’t get us wrong, it can be done - obviously Virginia did it (and how) but Pitt will be mightily challenged.
It’s pretty early but the ACC already has some separation at the top and bottom.
On the top, Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech are undefeated in conference play. NC State, UNC, Louisville, Syracuse and Georgia Tech are all 2-1.
Notre Dame, FSU and Pitt are all 1-2 while Clemson, BC and Weak Forest are all 0-3.
It’s obviously still early and some teams are likely to move up or down, notably Clemson (up), Georgia Tech (down) and Florida State (up).
NC State may have caught a break: Wyatt Walker, as we understand it, should be suspended by the conference for one game after grabbing a Pitt kid by his ankle Saturday and pulling him down. By the Gods, it’s that damned Greek arm!
Fortunately for State, next up is feckless Wake Forest on Tuesday and even if the game is close, State’s intensity is more than match for Wake’s now predictable habit of falling apart at the end.
