Here’s something you don't see every day: a clip from Duke-West Virginia in 1967.
The teams have an interesting if quiet history. This game was pretty good from what we’ve been told and during the Foster years, Duke went to WVU and the gym was so cold that Foster seriously considered having his team play in its warmup pants.
The Mountaineers thumped Duke in the NCAA tournament in 2008; Duke took them out rather emphatically in 2010. Da’Sean Butler suffered a serious leg injury and we saw WVU coach Bob Huggins, never know for a tender side, embracing his star player and comforting him as he writhed in great pain.
And finally, the West Virginia team we see here was coached by none other than Bucky Waters, who had been a Duke assistant from 1959-65 and who would move back to Durham in 1970 to succeed Vic Bubas as Duke’s head coach.
This video is interesting because aside from seeing a Bubas team in action, you see some small glimpses of the modern game, mostly from West Virginia.
