It’s not the AP or Coaches Poll but two polls have Duke at #1 - in football!

The Massey poll has Duke ranked first, ahead of Alabama, and the Loudsound poll also has Duke #1, again ahead of Alabama.

For most of our lives, it’s been a rarity for Duke to be ranked anywhere in any football poll and neither of these polls are given much attention.

What they do is similar to what KenPom does for basketball though and it’s a useful metric for gaining some sense of a team’s potential and, not insignificantly, how they’re regarded.

And we’re not sure that Duke, at least in our lifetimes, has ever been ranked #1 by any poll on any occasion. Twice in one week?

We’ll take it. Hell yes we’ll take it.
