Here’s something we never expected to see - the 1941 Duke football team pounding UNC - in color.

Turns out it was the first football game ever shot in color.

Twenty-two days later, the Japanese would bomb Pearl Harbor and many of the young men we see here on both sides of the football would rush to fight for their country, with many not returning.

Among those who would soon leave to fight: Duke coach Wallace Wade, who fought with great distinction and came back to coach after the war.
