Remember when Chazz Surratt jilted Duke after committing and chose UNLV-Chapel Hill instead?
At the time, David Cutcliffe said that it was a good thing and that he’d rather know sooner than later that someone wasn’t a man of his word.
In Surratt’s case, we now have two examples of that: first dumping Duke when UNC offered and second, ignoring NCAA regulations he promised to live up when he signed his grant-in-aid.
gf4On Monday, Surratt and 12 teammates were suspended after selling university and Nike provided shoes. Surratt is out for four games, along with nine others (we’re not sure about the others).
At this point most people either realize that the NCAA is full of it or at a minimum wish they’d be realistic about how they deal with money. A whole lot of it is stupid. Still, when you agree to abide by an agreement, you’re supposed to do it.
The News And Observer’s Luke DeCock has some tart comments here including calling the people’s athletic department’s university ShoeNC.
In the N&O!
You’d think that at some point even a bandit program like ShoeNC would learn a lesson but apparently we’re not far enough along in the degradation of the university to make that a reality.
So on to the next scandal. No truth to the rumor that London bookies are taking odds on how long it will be before the next crushing blow occurs.
