There have been a lot of really good players to come out of South Carolina over the years but more recently, elite players have opted to go out of state.

This has not gone unnoticed in the Palmetto State. Among others, Clemson coach Brad Brownell and South Carolina coach Frank Martin would understandably love to keep guys like, say, Zion Williamson at home.

One of the next guys up is Josiah James, out of Charleston. Everyone is interested, including Duke. He may be another one who proves to be tough to keep at home. We’ll see soon.

Some guys who played out of state over the years...

  • Ray Allen
  • Raymond Felton
  • James Forrest
  • Brice Johnson
  • Kevin Garnett*
  • Jermaine O’ Neill*
  • Seventh Woods
  • Jalek Felton
  • Major Wingate

* Both O’ Neill and Garnett went straight to the NBA out of high school
