When Virginia lost London Perrantes to graduation it seemed, on balance, like a good thing for the rest of the ACC. We didn’t think Tony Bennett had another point guard who could possibly do what Perrantes did. He was nearly perfect for that team.

Well we were sort of right.

He didn’t have a player as good as Perrantes. He had one better in Ty Jerome.

When we watched him in person last year at Cameron, we noticed a few things about that guy quickly.

First, he’s brilliant at controlling the pace for Virginia, which is obviously key. Second, he doesn’t rattle easily. He handled everything in Cameron with aplomb, and that’s not easy. Third, he’s outstanding in the clutch. And fourth, just overall, he’s ruthless.

He was at CP3 Elite Guard Camp this past week and clearly left a strong impression.

Once you get past Virginia’s still-shocking loss to UMBC this past spring in the NCAA tournament - the first loss ever by a #1 seed and it wasn’t close - consider Virginia’s backcourt.

Jerome is a great leader and spine for that team. Pair him with Kyle Guy and you have a wonderful arrogance.

Our advice, again, is to forget UMBC and focus on those two guys and perhaps a bit more on Jerome. We expect him to have a brilliant season for Virginia.

Well let’s back up a second for clarity’s sake. We can forget that loss. You can bet Jerome hasn’t.
