Sophomore guard Alex O’ Connell has had successful surgery to repair the orbital fracture (the bone under his eye) he suffered in Canada in the first game against Ryerson.

One of the small - actually not so small - perks of playing for Duke is that the medical care is not just first-rate but in many cases cutting edge. So while his injury may not have required that sort of care, the fact is that DUMC can offer amazing help in case of injury or illness.

O’ Connell is expected to make a complete recovery and be back for the start of practice next month.
