Wake struggled mightily last season and lost a lot of what they did have. So is there reason for optimism?

Well maybe.

Danny Manning has developed a bit of a French Connection. First he brought in center Olivier Sarr. He was quite thin as a freshman, but we understand he has really bulked up.

And now he’ll have a 5-star French teammate too.

Manning will bring in 6-8 freshmen Jaylen Hoard. He’s French but has played his high school ball in the Triad.

If Sarr is improved and Hoard is as good as his reputation, Wake can build around them. Brandon Childress is, at a minimum, a competent point guard and possibly a good bit better than that.

There are some other pieces to work with too and Manning, who has not excelled yet at Wake, could use a good year.
