Tough luck for a tough kid. He’ll bounce back though.

Evansville v Duke

In a downside to the win over Ryerson, Alex O’ Connell fractured his orbital floor, the bone below his eye, and will not play Friday or Sunday.

We’re sure his dad, Dave, who suffered a ton of injuries when he was at Duke, winced a bit more than most parents might.

The accident happened when Ryerson’s big man, Tanor Ngom, hit him with an elbow (we think it was Ngom - if not please let us know).

It was entirely unintentional. O’ Connell was behind him and he came down and his elbow collided with O’ Connell’s face. It’s just the normal risk you take in a physical sport. It could’ve just as easily been O’ Connell injuring Ngom.

Fortunately, O’ Connell will fully recover and should be ready for the start of the season.
