Things certainly got interesting during a NBA Summer League game last night between the Utah Jazz and the Atlanta Hawks. Midway through the 3rd quarter, first round draft picks Grayson Allen and Trae Young got tangled up and a brief scuffle ensued between the two:

Both players were separated and there was a delay while the referees sorted out the scenario. While Grayson Allen haters were quick to blame the former Duke star for instigating the altercation, Young did his part to create the tangle between the players. Here’s some replays from a couple different angles:

So, does this mean anything for Allen? Not really. Scuffles are going to happen in the NBA. He tried to get out of the situation and was separated from Young before things got any worse. His teammates on the court backed him up and got between him and Young. In the end, both players were assessed technical fouls, and play resumed.

In short, there’s nothing to read here. Haters may use this as a platform for the narrative that Grayson Allen is the worst. But, he’s not. It may not be the last time Grayson Allen will be involved in an altercation on the basketball court in his career. This particular scuffle is just two guys playing tough basketball and being competitive.
