NBA: Los Angeles Clippers at Portland Trail Blazers
Mar 30, 2018; Portland, OR, USA; LA Clippers guard Austin Rivers (25) scores a basket against Portland Trail Blazers center Zach Collins (33) during the first half at the Moda Center.

Austin Rivers, who is coming off of his best year as an NBA player, may become the ultimate answer to a trivia question: name the only NBA player to be told by his father he has been traded.

Well we can’t think of anyone else who could have been.

Can you imagine that conversation?

“Son, it’s been nice having you on my team but management decided to make a change.”

Totally bizarre.

Rivers was traded to the Wizards for Marcin Gortat, a guy who only wants to play as near the basket as possible:

”This summer, I’m going to work on my tan. I’m going to work on my 6-pack. Get my biceps definition a bit better. You can’t improve 3-point shooting. You can’t improve your shot, specifically for me. I truly believe I’m a solid, good shooter up to 15, 17 feet. But I’m not going to shoot 3s. No, I’m not going to do that. I want to go into the paint. Body people. Be physical. Get scratches. Bleed.”

Who looks forward to bleeding? In an odd way, you have to respect that.

As for Rivers, he’ll be on a team with solid starting guard in John Wall and Bradley Beal. He has a good shot at being the third guard and a guy who could possibly play some point as well.
