In the men’s game, playing internationally after college is seen as a bit of a failure. The NBA is the goal of course and playing in Europe is seen as a step down. Playing in other countries is really hit and miss, both in terms of talent and actually getting paid. It’s a different environment.
That’s not as true on the women’s side.
It is a different environment of course, but the competition gap isn't nearly as severe and spending time abroad - and getting paid for it - is a very cool thing.
So it goes for recent Blue Devil Erin Mathias, who is now in Italy and apparently having a wonderful time.
