Brennan Besser Has Booked To South Dakota

Duke walk-on has nearly crossed the Western United States without a motor. Top that, Bagley.

As Duke Blue Devil Brennan Besser’s journey across America continues, he’s gotten as far as Pierre, South Dakota, where he put on a clinic for the Pierre Wildcats, a Special Olympics team.

Besser, who is on his cross-country trip to raise money and awareness for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, including his sister Rachel, has already traveled about 1,400 miles. He’s one state away from the Midwest and already in the Great Plains, which cover pretty much all of South Dakota, so pedaling and running should be easier for the next, oh, 1,000 miles or so until things start to get more vertical in Ohio.

We didn’t realize how small Pierre is, by the way. It’s the state Capitol but only had 13,646 residents in 2010. Only Montpelier, Vermont is smaller, at least after sundown when all the government workers go home, leaving about 7-8,000 people who actually sleep there.
