U.S. sports teams have historically had mixed success playing Canadian teams.

Other than hockey, the U.S., with a bigger population and a bigger sports culture, generally wins, but over the years we have embarrassed ourselves with screw ups on the Canadian anthem or their iconic flag.

They’ve generally been good-natured about it but it surely must rankle.

With Duke playing in Canada in August, the odds of a screw up are minimal. First, Coach K has vast experience with international play and has always emphasized diplomacy and, just as importantly, not giving an opponent emotional fodder.

Here’s a piece from the Eye Opener, an independent student paper at Ryerson University (Duke plays Ryerson on the Canadian tour) about Duke’s visit.

It’s not a big piece or anything but you get an idea of the school and program and we’ll check back as the tour gets closer.
