Well here’s some fun news: the freshmen have picked their numbers so here they are:

1 - Zion Williamson

2 - Cam Reddish

3 - Tre Jones

5 - RJ Barrett

13 - Joey Baker

There always has to be one in the crowd, right? (In fairness to Baker, JJ Redick hung the #4 in the Cameron rafters some time ago).

Well the other numbers all have distinguished predecessors but the last #13 at Duke was Matt Jones and Jones is a guy you can take to the bank every day and any day. Coach K said at one point during Jones’s career that he had never had a bad practice and who can you say that about? It’s practice, man.

Williamson worries us a bit since 1 has a bit of an injury history at Duke with both Kyrie Irving and Harry Giles missing huge chunks of their freshman seasons and Parker has had significant NBA injuries.

On the other hand, someone has to break those trends and it might as well be the Iron Lion Zion.
