Well this is pretty cool: Duke walk-on Brennan Besser is going to bike, walk and run across the country this summer to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
He’s inspired by his sister, Jacqueline, who has struggled with motor skills her entire life.
Coach K had really nice things to say about his trip: ”I love him, and the spirit he brings is infectious on this team. Nothing he does surprises me, because almost everything he does is not about him. It’s about his talents, his emotion and his effort to help others. This is a terrific thing that he’s doing this summer and he’ll accomplish so much for so many people.”
This kind of underscores what we’ve said about the returning players who will have very young and talented teammates next year. Guys like Besser and Justin Robinson, among others, won’t play a lot but they will help teach the younger guys. Really you can think about them almost as young coaches. We expect that Besser’s trip will come up a good bit this fall as Coach K inculcates his young players into Duke basketball and points to it as an example of what someone is capable of.
