Progress continues for Jeff Capel at Pitt as the new head coach has hired his first two assistants: brother Jason and former Duke assistant Tim O’ Toole, who was on the staff when Capel played for the Blue Devils. He was also head coach at his alma mater, Fairfield.

Jason has been out of coaching for a while but was head coach at Appalachian State. He wasn't overly successful but not many people have really done well at App State and those that do, like Bobby Cremins, tend to leave.

Both are pretty smart hires. O’ Toole, 54 has tremendous experience across the country.

Capel learned a lot at UNC and has been on TV long enough to become a recognizable face around the region. Just 38, he should be a dynamic recruiter for brother Jeff who recruits pretty well himself.

And best of all, Pitt will have three guys with head coaching experience on the bench.

Capel still has one more hire to go but he has enough now to start setting up roles and responsibilities.
