Apple Valley has set a standard in Minnesota High School basketball lately. Between Gary Trent and the Jones brothers (Tyus and Tre), the school’s basketball team has been superb and won state championships in 2015 and 2017.

Unfortunately, and despite a tremendous game by future Blue Devil Tre Jones, the Eagles fell short in heart-breaking fashion this year: down 78-77 with :05 left, Cretin-Derham went 34 of the court and ended up passing the ball to 6-10 Daniel Oturu who dunked to give Cretin-Durham a 79-78 win. Apple Valley called time and had a half-second to get a shot. Jones did get one off but it was short.

Still, Tre matched Tyus with a state championship and will get at least one chance to match his national championship too.
