Only one game in the ACC Sunday as Boston College knocked off Georgia Tech at home in overtime, 80-72.
Boston College really hurt Georgia Tech from three point range, hitting 11-23 to Tech’s 5-14.
Just as importantly, the Eagles outscored the Yellow Jackets from the foul line, hitting 15-21 (71.4%) to Tech’s 9-13 (69.2%).
With the loss, BC moves to a respectable 14-9 - particularly compared to recent seasons.
And the thing is, their offense is almost entirely from three guards - Ty Bowman, Jerome Robinson and Jordan Chatman.
Depth may have hurt Georgia Tech - without Curtis Haywood, six guys got all but three of the available minutes. It’s like Bobby Cremins never left.
Bowman dominated the overtime, and good thing since Robinson fouled out.
BC is now in a three-way tie for 11th, which beats the hell out of dead last, which is where they’ve been the last couple of years, and after Louisville beats Syracuse Monday night - we’re fairly confident that’ll happen - BC will be up on Syracuse and, via tiebreaker, Georgia Tech.
Incidentally, know who has given Virginia the toughest game this year in ACC competition?
Not Duke, a two-point loser.
BC lost 59-58 on December 30th.
