It’s a quiet night around the ACC so let’s start out by acknowledging the decency of Virginia Tech’s Buzz Williams, who took to the microphone during the Duke-Virginia Tech game to ask fans to not curse and not throw things on the floor.
This was not something we would have seen during the Seth Greenberg era; Greenberg in fact seemed to prefer the worst elements of Hokie athletic culture and at times seemed to egg fans on.
As Duke fans it wasn't fun to lose to Buzz’s team Monday night but he’s an outstanding coach, a good man and a real addition to the ACC. That was a nice thing he did.
Could Louisville’s David Padgett keep his job after the season is over? It’s not a done deal yet but it’s more likely than it seemed recently: some of the guys who were tied to the opening are also tied to the Adidas/FBI scandal which has engulfed college basketball this winter.
Think Chris Mack (Xavier) and Gregg Marshall (Wichita).
They aren’t directly tied to the big mess but players they’ve coached have been mentioned and that won’t do well at Louisville in the current environment.
Of course Padgett, innocent though he may be, worked for Pitino so that may ultimately hurt him. But he is the Devil they know, if you will.
Were you wondering where Tony Bennett stood on one-and-dones? So was he.
