Pitt lost to Florida State Sunday night, 88-75. It’s not exactly a news flash - Pitt has now lost 15 straight.
But on the bright side, for Pitt anyway, the Panthers did leave at halftime 39-38 and were tied at 65-65 with 6:39 left and that is different.
That’s a road game - wait, was Pitt the only ACC team to lose on the road this weekend? - and Pitt was competitive.
Pitt gets Wake Forest next and while it won’t be easy, the Panthers could take Wake Forest at home. Wake isn’t a very good road team to say the least.
There’s only one game Monday as Miami visits Notre Dame. Miami has been slumping. Since Bruce Brown injured his foot, the Hurricanes are 3-3 and have lost three straight. A win at Notre Dame would be really helpful but a loss would really complicate their situation.
We’re at the point now where the bubble talk is very real. Right now ESPN’s Joe Lunardi lists the following ACC teams as in by his count:
- Virginia - 1 seed
- Duke - 2 seed
- Clemson - 3 seed
- UNC - 3 seed
- Miami - 6 seed
- Louisville -9 seed
- Florida State - 9 seed
- Virginia Tech - 10 seed
- NC State - 11 seed
Here’s Jerry Palm’s take
- Virginia - 1 seed
- Duke - 2 seed
- UNC - 3 seed
- Clemson - 3 seed
- Miami - 9 seed
- NC State - 10 seed
- Virginia Tech - 9 seed
Bubble
- Syracuse & Louisville
It would take a lot for Notre Dame or BC to move into the conversation but a hot streak could do it, especially if it extended into the ACC Tournament.
- NC State’s status for NCAA tournament as strong as it’s been
- PJ Savoy, Phil Cofer lead Florida State past Pittsburgh
- Seminoles smother Panthers, 88-75
- FSU Basketball: Noles avoid Pittsburgh upset with strong second half
- Noie: Moon, stars, sun need to align with wins for Notre Dame men’s basketball team
