ACC Roundup: Louisville’s Great Escape

Not an audacious beginning for Chris Mack but a win is a win is a win.

In Thursday’s ACC action, Notre Dame beat Chicago State 89-62 and Louisville took care of Nicholls 85-72.

Notre Dame was up 18 and let Chicago State come back before taking control. Elijah Burns had a career high 15 points. Coach Mike Brey said he went with the best defenders after that and the Irish pulled back in front, going up 40-35 at the half.

The Irish almost rebuilt the lead, winning by 17.

DJ Harvey, back from a knee injury last year, played 24 minutes and scored 11 points. Freshman big man Nate Lazewski added 12.

Louisville didn’t shoot well in Chris Mack’s coaching debut, hitting 47.5%

The starters only shot hit nine shots (9-19) and the team only hit 19 shots overall (19-40).

The Cards did hit 42 foul shots and got Nicholls in serious foul trouble with five guys fouling out and two guys finishing with four.

This was a two-point game with 3:44 left. Not a smashing debut but at least the Cards won.

Louisville has Southern and Vermont coming up before a really tough stretch with Tennessee, Michigan State and Seton Hall one after the next and Indiana after a bon bon (presumably) named Central Arkansas.

Not too long after that comes Kentucky, which could get ugly, then ACC play. Mack has some time to get things going in the right direction but not too much.

The ACC has an unusually busy Friday night with UNC, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Pitt, Miami and Georgia Tech all playing.

Everyone but the Yellow Jackets has already played an opener.

By the way, remember Katina Powell, the prostitute who was at the center of Louisville’s sex scandal? The woman who wrote a tell-all which gave private information out about people associated with Louisville basketball without their permission and in fact most likely in defiance of their wishes?

Powell used a hotel in Kentucky and someone affiliated with the hotel sent a copy of her driver’s license to a friend who then posted it online.

Posting people’s private information without their permission is a terrible thing to do and we don’t endorse it. But did karma bite her in the ass?

Yes it did.
