After Duke knocked off Michigan in 1992’s title game, the teams scheduled a Cameron rematch the following fall.
The Fab Five were saying ridiculous things like “Duke stole our title.”
Duke of course was aware of this and Cameron was as pumped for that game as any we’ve ever seen.
Christian Laettner and Brian Davis were gone from the back-to-back title teams.
Didn’t matter.
We knew going in that Duke was going to be at a level Michigan could never match and a proud and offended bunch of Blue Devils took it to Michigan in a big way, winning 79-68, which probably sounds close...but there was never much question about the outcome. Duke’s intensity overwhelmed the young trash talkers from Ann Arbor. They never had a chance.
It was Duke’s third win over the Fab Five and in some ways, the most satisfying.
It was one of the great games in the K Canon.
