The pre-season ACC media poll was released Thursday and Duke was picked #1 with 52 votes followed by Virginia with 47.

RJ Barrett was voted pre-season first team while Zion Williamson made second.

Interestingly, Williamson was voted second team but also third mostly likely to be ACC Player of the Year behind UNC’s Luke Maye and teammate Barrett. We’re not sure how you square that circle but there you go.

Duke has a lot of talent and potential, but as we’ve seen in many ways in recent years, experience can overcome greater talent.

Also, we understand why people picked Pitt last but is their situation really that different than Wake Forest’s? We think they have a solid chance to finish at least 14th.

Also, people pick against Notre Dame and Mike Brey at their peril.

  1. Duke (52)
  2. Virginia (47)
  3. North Carolina (20)
  4. Syracuse (1)
  5. Virginia Tech
  6. Clemson (1)
  7. Florida State
  8. NC State
  9. Notre Dame
  10. Miami
  11. Louisville
  12. Boston College
  13. Georgia Tech
  14. Wake Forest
  15. Pittsburgh
