Tim Nestor was a solid official and will be missed, especially when Ted Valentine shows up.

Basketball officials aren’t generally measured by how good they are. They’re more often measured by Kabuki standards - the less you notice them, the better.

There are guys like Ted Valentine, aka TV Teddy, and Dick Paparo, who enjoy the spotlight and inject themselves into the flow of the game. Some guys, like Jamie Luckie, lose public confidence after seemingly losing their composure.

Those guys are almost always despised. No one wants to notice the zebras.

Then there are guys like Tim Nestor.

If you follow basketball, you’ve likely heard his name but never in controversy. He’s just a simple, hard working official who keeps his head down and tries to do an honest night’s work.

So we’re sorry to see he’s retiring. He’s one of the good ones and he’ll be missed.
