People tend to forget but of course Grant Hill and Jeff Capel were teammates for one season at Duke, when Hill was a senior and Capel a freshman.

They’ve remained good friends and Hill visited Capel this week for a fundraiser and had some thoughts about his old friend as he kicks off his Pitt career:

“He has great instincts with people,” Hill told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I think so much of coaching — whether it’s football or basketball — if you can motivate, if you can lead, if you can teach, if you can inspire, you’ll get people to follow you. I don’t care what your strategy is. If you can get people to follow you and believe, that’s 75 percent of it right there. He has that. He had that as an 18 year old when he was a freshman. He’s had that at every stage I’ve known him. He’s as good as he’s ever been and he’s excited about this move and this opportunity with this program.”

We hate that he’s not at Duke but we’re really looking forward to seeing what he can do at Pitt. It’s going to be exciting.
