Since there are no games coming up tonight or to report on from yesterday there’s not much need for ACC At A Glance today. Here are the standings. Links are at the bottom as always.
Bad went to worse for Notre Dame as star point guard Matt Farrell (re)joins Bonzi Colson on the injured list.
Earlier he had an ankle problem but now a bone bruise will keep him out indefinitely.
Notre Dame will continue to compete but who thrives without their two most critical players? It’s another bad break for Mike Brey’s Irish, a team that really deserves better.
Duke-Virginia will get most of the attention this weekend but State and UNC play in Chapel Hill, and to Roy Williams, that’s as good as playing Duke.
As Al Featherston notes in his column today, it’s a bit early to have many serious locks for post-season honors, but Miami’s Dewan Huell is certainly a legitimate candidate.
When Roy Williams left for Kansas in 1988, Duke had just started its run under Coach K and Triangle rivalries were in a bit of transition. Duke was highly competitive with UNC but had not yet passed the Tar Heels and State had two national championships since 1974. Toss in an undefeated season in 1973 and that program as at an historic high that few teams reach.
So when he said a couple of years ago that he might be more serious about beating State than he is about beating Duke, well, you can almost kind of understand.
It’ll be an interesting day for Kevin Keatts. He’s well aware of all things ACC but he’s only gotten his toes wet when it comes to ACC rivalries. Duke was a great win for his program but UNC over there and Duke in Cameron next year will provide a useful education. Odds of him buying the team ice cream this weekend aren’t very good.

- UVA’s offensive balance may be overlooked
- Contrasting styles of U.Va., Duke never more compelling
- UNC’s Roy Williams has missed on one-and-done players. But so what. He’s winning.
- How Roy Williams trash talks with his Wolfpack buddies
- For UNC and NC State this season, past results no indication of future performance
- NC State’s Keatts: ‘Everybody loves ice cream’
