As a rule we like to look at local sources when it comes to big stories so let’s head over to the Spartanburg newspaper and see what we see there.
Hold the phone, what’s this?
Justin Byerly of prephoops.com thinks that it’s “50-50” - between Duke and Clemson.
That’s the first time we’ve seen Duke given that much of a chance (ooh, here’s another)
However, he also says this: “It’s one of the quietest recruiting situations I’ve ever been around. With most of them, you can kind of get a feel for what’s happening. There’s nothing about this situation that leads you to lean one way or another. They’ve really handled it well.”
Could he fit at Duke? Well, yeah.
Cam Reddish and RJ Barrett both have guard skills. Tre Jones will play point. Williamson? He’d play wherever he wants (sorry). He’s athletic and powerful enough to seriously play almost anywhere.
What we read some time ago and passed on to you guys still makes sense though. If his mom wants him to stay close, he probably will. And she doesn’t have to sign anything if she doesn’t want too.
So just for reference, here are the distances from Spartanburg to his potential choices. He said he’s down to four but we’re listing all six associated with his decision:
- Clemson - 61 miles
- South Carolina - 96 miles
- Duke - 231 miles
- Kentucky - 360 miles
- Kansas - 963 miles
