NCAA Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament-Wake Forest vs Boston College
Mar 7, 2017; Brooklyn, NY, USA; Wake Forest Demon Deacons forward Konstantinos Mitoglou (44) and Boston College Eagles guard Jordan Chatman (25) fight for a loose ball during the first half of an ACC Conference Tournament game at Barclays Center.

An interesting development at Wake Forest as Dinos Mitoglou has opted to sign a contract in Europe.

He apparently told Danny Manning and his staff that he would be back on Wednesday so it’s a bit of a surprise. He got a serious offer though - $2 million for four years - and that’s hard to turn down.

For Wake, his departure presents opportunity and challenges. On the one hand, Wake lost its two best big men from last season (John Collins is now with the Atlanta Hawks) and one almost in August - that’s pretty late.

And on the other?

Manning has been recruiting athletic and versatile players and Mitoglou didn’t really fit in with that, at least not ideally.

Wake’s going to struggle to replace those two, but on the other hand, It’s a great chance for his other recruits to step up. If he can get a reasonable performance out of Doral Moore or one of his other big men he’s got a reasonable shot at surrounding him with some solid athletes. It’s where Wake was heading anyway. They’re just getting there a bit sooner than anyone expected.
