Northwestern is full of smart people so it’s no surprise that the Wildcats have locked up Chris Collins, which they announced Tuesday.
Collins was extended through 2024-25 and will be making more than $3 million annually.
We’re not sure anyone thought he could bring success to Northwestern - certainly we were dubious.
It’s not because of his talent but rather history. Northwestern has buried Tex Winter, Bill Foster, Bill Carmody, Ricky Byrdsong and Kevin O’ Neill.
So far Collins has been brilliant. There are signs he can maintain success but no guarantees yet. Having a long contract will allow him to keep building and we expect he’ll continue to excel.
