At the beginning of the season, many people, including some who should have known better (like Jay Bilas), thought Duke might go undefeated.
Then people thought the wheels were falling off and to be sure, there was a rocky patch.
And after Virginia?
Well, here’s what Matt Norlander had to say in the conclusion of his morning piece on Duke:
More and more, this team is giving us reasons to firmly -- not tentatively, firmly -- put it in the elite company of college basketball’s best teams. Beating Virginia, not the win over UNC, is Duke’s best victory of the season...So here’s the reality: Duke is a two-loss team when Krzyzewski is on the bench. And with the roster fully available, Duke is undefeated. Kennard remains vital and Grayson Allen has seemingly been able to move on from the melodrama. Now you get Tatum playing like a top-five freshman over the past two weeks, and Duke looks set to challenge the rest of its conference and the rest of college basketball.
We pretty much agree with him, and we’re not picking on him because we don’t remember what he said earlier. Still, and in general, it’s amazing how people run hot and cold, isn’t it?
