After St. Anthony’s closed last year, Bob Hurley found himself without a team. He’s still going to gyms, taking notes and soaking up as much knowledge as he can.

Clearly he’s still got a lot left in the tank and would rather be coaching. Here’s a thought.

Charlotte just embarrassed itself by firing Mark Price nine games into his third season. Nothing is going to happen this year, so why not approach Hurley and ask him if he would like a team for the rest of the season? Do whatever it takes to intrigue him and make him comfortable. Charlotte gets a great, great coach and more publicity than it’s had in the last 30 years.

And if he likes it, who knows? The 49ers might get a nice run from Hurley who could remake and rebrand that program in a short period of time. Charlotte’s not Jersey City but the basketball program could be the grittiest in the state with Hurley in charge.

If we’re A.D. Judy Rose and we just made a colossal misjudgment, might as well swing for the fences.
