University of Florida v Duke University
PORTLAND, OR - NOVEMBER 26: Gary Trent Jr #2 of the Duke Blue Devils is fouled as he shoots the ball over Egor Koulechov #4 of the Florida Gators in the second half of the game during the PK80-Phil Knight Invitational presented by State Farm at the Moda Center on November 26, 2017 in Portland, Oregon. Duke won the game 87-84.

Gary Trent has been somewhat overshadowed by Duke’s other freshmen starters Trevon Duval, a highly promising point guard, Wendell Carter, a powerful and polished post player and most of all Marvin Bagley, who has been nothing short of sensational.

That’s too bad because Trent is one of the smarter players to come along in quite some time. The focus on his shooting overshadows his intelligence for the game.

The smartest two guys to come along for Duke recently, in our opinion, were Jon Scheyer and Tyus Jones, who both had near genius intelligence at point guard.

Trent will have to prove that he’s in that class but watching him play makes us go, almost every time...damn that guy is smart.

Watch him carefully. He’s something else.
