The exam/holiday break is upon us and that means most of the games in the near future are going to be weak. But not all (we’ll come back to that).

Florida State beat Tulane 72-53, more or less as expected. Braian Angola had 18 points and eight rebounds. FSU forced 19 turnovers, held Tulane to 35.6% overall from the floor and won the boards 44-38, holding Tulane to eight offensive rebounds. Hard to get far with that.

Virginia Tech had no trouble at all with Maryland-Eastern Shore. The game was close for the first seven-and-half minutes or so with Virginia Tech leading 16-15.

After that though the Hokies erupted.

Virginia Tech scored 77 after that and held UMES to 30 the rest of the game.

That’s fairly imposing even when the opponent is a weaker team.

Chris Clarke had 18 off the bench to lead the Hokies.

That won’t be the case Saturday as for some reason, Kentucky scheduled Virginia Tech.

Though the Hokies have never played at Rupp, that’s a very dangerous opponent. Could Virginia Tech win?

If they don’t get stage fright then yes, they could. This is a very good team and it’s not a particularly great Kentucky team, at least not so far.

Only one game on Monday as 1-9 Bryant visits Louisville. That won’t end well.

Speaking of Louisville, ESPN has a long article about the scandal (the most recent one) posted. If you haven’t seen it it’s worth your time.
