Coach K spoke to Mike DeCourcy and said, referring to the NCAA/Adidas scandal that “I’m sorry that these events occurred, obviously. But sometimes only when something bad happens will people look at change. It’s not time for a Band-Aid. It’s time for a major overhaul — of this entire journey, not just our part of it. Our part is the one that is furthest behind, or the one that is not in touch.”
He also said, again, that NCAA basketball has become a big business but is being run like a mom and pop shop. His argument for a commissioner rings more and more true, and certainly this is a moment of change. The NCAA has redefined the terms stupid, unaware and arrogant several times, so don’t get your hopes up, but there is opportunity in this disaster.
