In ACC news, NC State’s Braxton Beverly, who wanted to get started early and took one summer class at Ohio State before Thad Matta was fired, has been told by the NCAA that his second appeal has failed and he’ll have to sit out his entire freshman year.

We weren’t the only ones to point out how ridiculous it is to allow UNC to have thousands of athletes take fake classes while this kid actually gets punished for going to class. It’s pathetic.

Meanwhile, former secretary of education Arne Duncan, himself a former college basketball player, says the system is broken and NCAA jefe Mark Emmert expresses concern that the NCAA isn’t being taken seriously and is widely distrusted.

You think?

Here’s a suggestion: why not let a third party, in UNC’s case the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, be the binding arbiter?

Down at Miami, A.D. Blake James says yes, the school has talked to the FBI about the Adidas scandal.

And speaking of scandal, Rick Pitino is gone but Louisville basketball continues. The Cards are getting used to the post-Pitino world.

Here’s an interesting piece on Clemson guard Gabe DeVoe, called the best player ever to come out of Shelby High.
