NCAA Basketball: ACC Conference Tournament-North Carolina State vs Duke
Mar 9, 2016; Washington, DC, USA; The Duke Blue Devils band plays in the stands against the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the second half during day two of the ACC conference tournament at Verizon Center. The Blue Devils won 92-89.
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

We’re sorry to report that Jim Henry, the director of Duke Athletic Bands from 1960-1985, has died.

He came to Duke to direct the marching band but when basketball coach Vic Bubas wanted to start a pep band like he had seen with Western teams, Henry started it.

It was the first pep band east of the Mississippi and it has been a feisty, solid operation ever since he kicked it off.

He was an interesting man. Take a few minutes and read this testimony to a life well-lived.
