It’s basketball season, or at least practice has started, so as soon as we can we like to crank up ACC Roundup.
So here’s a short run to whet your whistle.
First, State and Virginia Tech bagged recruits.
In State’s case, the Pack got 6-6 Jericole Hellems from St. Louis, who plays at Chaminade, the same high school that produced Duke’s Jayson Tatum. He’s seen as a 4-star prospect and will arrive for 2018-19.
Meanwhile, Virginia Tech won over 6-1 PG Jonathan Kabongo. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because his brother Myck was a standout out for Texas a few years ago.
Virginia’s A.D. search is over: the Cavaliers have hired former Georgia assistant Carla Williams to replace Craig Littlepage. She’s an intriguing hire.
So is Terrell McIntyre at Clemson.
A former Tiger point guard, coach Brad Brownell brought him because he wanted a guy who had a deep knowledge of Clemson. He’s now director of player development.
McIntyre, a native of Raeford, is just one in a long line of overlooked talents from (mostly) Eastern North Carolina who ended up at other schools. (think BC’s Ky Bowman for instance).
He’ll help the Tigers.
A bit of scandal news if you haven't heard: Louisville booster Max Baumgardner, angered by the firing of former A.D. Tom Jurich, has changed his mind about giving Louisville athletics $6 million dollars.
On the other hand, the the School of Music and Children’s Hospital are probably pretty happy because that’s where most of the money earmarked for athletics is going to go now.
Check out this article. He sounds like a handful.
