A Good Deed By Coach K And A Very Special Guest Coming To Cameron For Duke-UNC

This is a pretty cool story of a Natural Born Crazy who will make a one-time pilgrimage to Cameron before she dies. And sadly, that’s not too far off.

North Carolina v Duke
DURHAM, NC - MARCH 05: Justin Jackson #44 of the North Carolina Tar Heels and teammates Marshall Plumlee #40 and Brandon Ingram #14 of the Duke Blue Devils go after a loose ball during their game at Cameron Indoor Stadium on March 5, 2016 in Durham, North Carolina.

Coach K does a lot of things that aren’t intended to be public and are at odds with the national perception of a remorseless militaristic leader.

That’s not who he is of course. The man is tremendously focused and perhaps volatile - he has said on occasion that he knows he has anger and he knows how to use it to his advantage - but he also has many other qualities including kindness and compassion.

Take what he did for Melanie Pearson Day for instance.

A former BYU Cougar, Day has a death sentence issued by stage four breast cancer. On her bucket list?

A trip to Cameron to see Duke and UNC play.

BYU coach Jeff Judkins contacted Coach K and now Item #1 on her bucket list will be checked off on February 9th.

That’s so cool.

We’d like to urge the Cameron Crazies to make a big deal out of the visit and to honor her.

She’s one of us now, even if not for very long, and we should really make her feel at home in Our House.
