Pearl Washington's Illness Brings Out The Best In Syracuse Fans

However, we've watched the sad story of Pearl Washington unfold - he will die soon from brain cancer - and seeing the outpouring of love and grief from Syracuse fans and partisans is incredibly touching.

His death is inevitable - the doctors say he won't live much longer - but he's bound to know how many he has touched.

Much like the illness and death of Jim Valvano around here, Washington's tragedy has brought out beautiful things in many people. Folks in Syracuse are about to have their hearts broken, true, but tragedy can bring gifts also. We're seeing a lot of that in Syracuse about now and it's incredibly moving.
