Neither Marquette nor Northwestern is likely to make the Big Dance. That should not obscure what former Duke players and assistant coaches Steve Wojciechowski and Chris Collins have accomplished.

Wojo was 13-19 in his first year; in his second he's 19-12. He's also recruited very well and his program is clearly on the rise.

If anything, Collins has been more impressive because succeeding at Northwestern is incredibly difficult.

In his first season, Collins finished 14-19. In his second, he was 15-17. This year?

He's 20-11.

That doesn't sound like much but one more victory sets a record for Northwestern.

Like Wojo, Collins has recruited well. But remember this: Vic Law, probably his best player, sat out the entire season with a shoulder injury.

He's done a brilliant job to get Northwestern to this point.
