Two Basketball Figures Survive Brussels Attack

Sebastien Bellin and Dikembe Mutombo were both in the airport and lucky to be alive.

After the barbaric attacks and murders in Brussels Tuesday basketball was certainly not very  important. However there were two basketball players affected by the attacks so we thought we'd mention them here.

First, former Oakland University player Sebastien Bellin.

In his case he suffered a leg wound and apparently has already had two surgeries. Best wishes to him. At 37 and still playing in Europe, this may mark the end of his career. That's a minor concern in the larger picture but probably not so small to him.

So that you know, there is a very graphic picture linked in this article. You may not want to see it and it's not appropriate for small children. It is remarkable in one way though because for a guy who has just been seriously injured he appears remarkably calm. In fact, you could be forgiven for thinking that he's checking his watch. He's one cool customer.

More fortunate was former Georgetown and NBA star Dikembe Mutombo as he came through unscathed.
