On Saturday, we picked Miami over Wichita State and Duke over Yale. We also picked Indiana over Kentucky, Iowa State over UALR and Virginia over Butler.
We thought UConn might have enough to beat KU but we were really off on that.
We got Gonzaga but missed on Providence, but Providence did okay until UNC wore them down. So 6-2 - not bad but not great.
So Sunday? Well let's see.
We'll take Villanova over Iowa. We just have no confidence in the Hawkeyes making a big run.
We're very tempted by Stephen F. Austin but we'll go with Notre Dame. The Irish have solid guard play and take care of the ball, and they've had time to see what it is that SFA does. Mike Brey should have his guys ready.
Oklahoma should take VCU although we are impressed with the Rams.
Middle Tennessee State was more than impressive in taking out Michigan State. But we don't see them shooting 56% from three point range again, and they're a poor from the line at about 61%. We've seen enough of Syracuse to know that zone messes with people's heads the first time they see it. And our theory is this: you hardly ever see a team play two great games in a row. MTSU got one against Michigan State. Don't expect a repeat. If the Blue Raiders do win, it'll be close. Our guess is that the line costs them.
We don't think Hawai'i is good enough to beat Maryland unless Maryland doesn't show up. Thing is, sometimes they don't. South Dakota State gave them a good game. There's no reason why Hawai'i can't match SDSU. But it'll be Maryland.
Texas A&M over Northern Iowa. We like Northern Iowa but they're not all that.
Xavier over a stubborn Wisconsin.
Oregon over St. Joe's. Phil Martelli knows how to get it done, but Oregon is a very good team.
