Pressure gets a bad rap sometimes because sometimes, pressure can be a positive.

Imagine you are driving a pregnant woman to the hospital and the contractions are getting close. Now that's pressure - either you make it or you deliver that baby yourself.

Or you are one credit short of graduating from say law school and it's your nightmare class. You've put all that time in - are you going to blow it now?

Of course not. There is no alternative but to pass that class.

See? Pressure as a positive.

It's true for sports as well. Take Duke's current situation. Duke is 7-5 since Amile Jefferson was injured.

Duke is getting pressure from the media and various other quarters because in his absence, the team is not winning as it usually does.

However, there is no bigger pressure than the pressure you put on yourself and Duke is putting a lot on itself right now. And given Coach K's brilliance as an uncredentialed sports psychologist, that pressure is going to be very positive.

Check out what Matt Jones says here: "Our backs are against the wall right now, and we just need wins. That doesn’t mean we’re tight or anything like that. We just have to take it day by day and get better each day.
"We can win without Amile, and we can with Amile. Right now, we have to win without Amile."

So what that means is that no matter what happens, you won't see anything but the best effort out of Duke.
