When the Big Ten brought in Rutgers, the idea was that Rutgers would provide entree into the New Jersey/New York market. In the last football season, Rutgers finished 4-8. Now it's basketball season and Rutgers is 6-15 and winless in the Big Ten.

That's all bad enough, but on Wednesday, Rutgers descended to low comedy. Add it to the various football fiascos and the circus around former AD Julie Hermann and you have to think at times that Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney wonders what the hell he was thinking.
